遥かなるロシア チェーホフの家

「メリホヴォのポーチ、ライラック」、1895年　イサーク・レヴィタン


チェーホフのクリニックのあるメリホヴォには、患者のみならず、友人知人いろいろな人たちが訪れました。

画家のイサーク・レヴィタンはチェーホフの館を絵に残しており、特に絵画『春のメリホヴォ』を鑑賞してください。ロシアの馥郁たる香りのライラックの咲く、素朴な情景ですね。

なにせ館のまわりにはひと春で100株以上のライラックを植えたそうで、その景観はどれ程に美しく、香り高いロシアのリラ（ライラック）を愛でることが出来たことでしょうか、それだけでも病気が治ってしまいそうです。

更に、新しい花や木を植え込み、温暖な地方の植物（アスパラガス、アーティチョーク、コールラビ）が栽培されていた菜園を、彼は「南フランス」と呼んでいました。

人々は好んで春の日に訪れ、咲き誇るリラや果樹が香りを放つメリホヴォを満喫したということです。

戯曲『かもめ』のニーナ・ザレーチナヤのモデルとなったリーカ・ミジノワもしばしば訪れた人といわれています。（ロシアン　ビョンド”Russian Beyond”より）
