遥かなるロシア アントン・パーヴロヴィチ・チェーホフ Антон Павлович Чехов

日本人もよく知る、『３人姉妹』、『桜の園』、『ワーニャ叔父さん』、『かもめ』、これらの戯曲で有名なチェーホフも立派な人だったのですね。

彼の専門は医者であり、モスクワ郊外のメリホヴォと言う街にクリニックを構え、現地の農民に無償で医療を施し、屋敷の離れに外来診療所をも設置しました。

貧しい農民が薬を買えないならば、薬も無償で提供しました。

さらに，メリホヴォの菜園には薬草栽培のための特別な区画も設けられていたそうです。

1892年のコレラの大流行時には幸いにして、メリホヴォはこの疫病をまぬかれました。これというのも、適時医療の恩恵を受けていた住民の良好な健康状態が、幸いしたのかもしれないとも言われています。

然し近隣の村々はこの疫病に襲われ、チェーホフは志願して地区の衛生医となりました。そして衛生医として26の村、4つの工場、ダヴィドヴァ・プスティニ修道院で働いたそうです。

さらに資産を投じて、メリホヴォの3つの学校の建設を主導しました。これらの教育機関は模範的と言われておりました。天井の高いゆとりのある木造建築は、3校中2校は良好な状態で現存しており、現在は博物館に引き渡されております。

さらにメリホヴォ周辺の電信網の発展にも寄与し、彼の努力によって、地方自治会の郵便局の新しい建物が建てられ、モスクワ郵便局が開業したのは1896年1月2日、1896年10月1日には電信サービスが開始されました。郵便局での電信サービスの開始を祝う式典にチェーホフも招待されたということです。

この方もロシアが誇る立派なお方ですね。

Also He invested more assets and led the construction of three schools in Merikhovo. These educational institutions were said to be exemplary. The wooden structure with a high ceiling has two of three schools in good condition and has been handed over to the museum.
In addition, he contributed to the development of the telegraph network around Merihovo. A telegraph service was started on the 1st. Chekhov was also invited to a ceremony celebrating the start of the telegraph service at the post office.

He is also a wonderful person that Russia is proud of.
